Why France is Burning (And America is Getting Richer)
Half a million people marched through France on 17 October 2026. Inflation is the obvious suspect — except America's is actually higher. So why is France stuck at 0.4% growth while the US is forecast to grow almost six times faster? The answer starts with one number from the year 2000.

The other side
In fairness
France's hourly productivity is still ~86% of the US and far above most of the world; the US also has 3.7% inflation, >100% debt, a sluggish Q2, and worse inequality/health outcomes. Part of France's per-capita gap is a choice of more leisure (fewer hours), not pure failure.
